How do y'all document DIY oil changes on new cars? (Warranty)
I'grand nearing the first oil change on my new motorcar.
I already have one-half a box of oil that I bought from Costco, all I need is to purchase the filter and I'm good to go, information technology'southward not my first rodeoil change.
However, I won't have a receipt for the oil, only the filter, and obviously it won't be a mechanic's receipt for oil modify.
Do you lot...
one - Take pictures? Like, holding the filter receipt in forepart of the ODO?
2 - Brand a video?
three - I don't know?
4 - Do y'all just become pay 100$ at the dealership when the chore costs thirty$ in parts?
I have no inkling, really.

Supposedly, receipts of oil+filter and a log of some sort indicating date and mileage will suffice.
On my new vehicle (while notwithstanding under warranty); I merely go to a preferred indy shop.

Wouldn't advise putting former oil into your vehicle simply because information technology's not nether warranty, but it's your car

afterwards my free oil change for our new Accordance, i go to iGarage(indy) to get the service washed. $60 with receipt is pretty good. you lot looking at $40-l for parts (iv-5 litres oil + filter) anyways. you're but saving $fifteen-20 for DIY. i recommend finding an indy store in Montreal and relieve time and hassle.

I've always been curious, has any dealer actually requested receipts/records of oil changes when you wanted some work done under warranty?

It must depend what kind of claim it is.
If yous merits an A/C warranty, oil alter has nothing to practise with information technology.
If you claim an engine trouble, inspection of struts and shocks or replacing cabin and airfilter has nothing to do with it either.
Simply yea, I'm actually curious well-nigh it too. Under warranty I only claimed a leaky hydraulic steering rack and haven't been asked anything

Definitely make a video of the unabridged oil alter in instance they do not believe you.
Take timelapse photos of the dirty oil coming out and the clean oil going in.

Information technology wont matter if yous have receipts for purchasing oil and filters if it turns out you lot have an internal problem with the engine. The dealer will want to see receipts from a store with dates, mileages, parts used. Odds of something going wrong are pretty slim but it is possible.

Never ran into that situation but under extended warranty the company has asked the customer for receipts and has denied warranty work if the receipts don't validate the recommended oil change interval's.

I piece of work at a dealership and claims have been denied because the customer did in that location own maintenance. Never under basic warranty only under extended warranty. If you do your ain maintenance on your vehicle at the required intervals the odds of something going wrong are pretty slim. Customers have asked me tin can I become a remote start installed anywhere? I told them yes you own the vehicle information technology is yours to do what yous want. The only thing you need to worry near is if in that location turns out to be a warranty repair and the crusade of the fault was caused by the remote kickoff installation or the parts used the warranty merits will denied.

Sometimes it'south not virtually the money savings. If you know what you are doing, you can frequently get a "better" oil change by doing it yourself. You can let it drip for over an hour to brand sure all the old oil is out, prefill the filter, etc. These are things that garages would never do as information technology'south a bit of overkill. Besides, y'all tin can do on your own schedule vs. scheduling an appointment at a garage.

OP's concern is warranty claims down the road. getting receipt from indy is more than credible than your ain DIY, taking vid and pics every bit noted above is ridiculous.

Doesn't possessor's manual specifically state y'all can do your own oil changes equally long equally you proceed your receipts and keep a log of the piece of work (such equally the log inside the volume itself)?
Are you saying the dealer will accept a look at your log/receipts/records and basically say "screw yous, likewise bad"?
